Job description
Starr Bus Charter & Tours has been family-owned since 1947, and we’re now in our third generation. Our motorcoach drivers are the face of our company, and this role is how we find, qualify, and support them. You’ll often be the first voice a driver candidate hears from Starr, and you’ll work alongside our training, operations, and finance teams to get great drivers on the road safely. New to DOT regulations? We’ll teach you. If you have HR, recruiting, or administrative experience and an eye for detail, we want to hear from you.
This is a fast-paced, deadline-driven role. You'll screen and interview applicants, run every step of pre-employment compliance, work with our training department to schedule and track each new hire's training from first road test to final road test, and keep every driver's qualification file complete and current. You'll often be the first voice a driver candidate hears from Starr, so clear, friendly, and timely communication is a big part of the job.
What You'll Do
Recruit and hire
Manage job ads and recruiting spend with our Indeed account team
Review applications and MVRs, conduct phone screens and interviews, and schedule road tests
Prepare offer letters
Onboard and train
Run pre-employment compliance: DOT physicals and drug screens, background checks, FMCSA Clearinghouse queries, PSP reports, and employment verifications
Administer new-hire paperwork, including I-9 verification, tax forms, and payroll setup with accounting
Partner with our training department to schedule and track each new hire from first road test to final road test, and set them up in our dispatch, telematics, and training systems
Keep every driver compliant
Build and maintain Driver Qualification files to FMCSA standards
Track license and medical card renewals, random and follow-up drug testing, semi-annual MVRs, and annual Clearinghouse queries
Issue driver equipment and keep personnel records, contact lists, and insurer rosters current
Why This Role
This is a broad HR foundation: you’ll touch recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, I-9s, payroll setup, and DOT compliance, all in one role. You’ll work directly with our leadership team, and you’ll learn a business where every driver you hire matters. It’s a strong start for a career in HR, safety, or operations.
